Amesbury was settled in 1645 along the banks of the Merrimack River in Massachusetts. The early settlement developed a rich maritime history along side its close neighbor Newburyport. At the heart of the American Industrial Revolution, in the early 19th century, Amesbury's huge brick mills sprang up along the Merrimack and Powow Rivers. Amesbury's Carriage trade and Hat Manufacture became famous nation wide. For additional history on Amesbury, click here.
